Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda has not yet entered the film industry, but her popularity on social media is no less than a Bollywood star. She shares a close bond with her grandfather Amitabh Bachchan. She is often seen talking about mental health and gender quality. Recently she attended an event with Big B where they discussed women’s health and menstruation with family which is still considered to be taboo.

Navya Naveli Nanda with her grandfather Amitabh Bachchan attended a telethon organized by NDTV. At the event said that discussing menstruation in a public forum in presence of her grandfather is a sign of progress. She even mentioned that she grew up in a home where she felt comfortable having these conversations which continue to be taboo otherwise. At the event, a senior actor said that he considers menstruation 'a sign of recreation.'

Agreeing to this, Navya said, “Like he mentioned, it's a sign of life. That's not something that we should be ashamed of, or shy away from. Menstruation has been a taboo for a long time, but there has been progress. I’m sitting on stage today with my grandfather and talking about periods, and that itself is a sign of progress. The fact that we are sitting on a platform today with many people watching us and having an open conversation about menstruation itself shows that we have progressed, not just as women but as a country.”

She continued, “It’s great that not just the women, but the men have also joined in this mission of making menstruation a destigmatised conversation. More importantly, at home, because change always begins at home. Women should feel comfortable and safe about their own bodies in their own homes before going out in society and talking about that. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a home where I felt comfortable having these conversations.”

For the unversed, Navya is an entrepreneur and mental health advocate. She also runs an online healthcare platform for women, Aara Health, co-founded in 2020. The young entrepreneur has started a campaign Project Naveli, through which she aims to ‘fight’ gender inequality.

Apart from this, she has launched her podcast ‘What the Hell Navya’ which included her mother Shweta Bachchan Nanda, and grandmother Jaya Bachchan. In the podcast, they discussed Navya’s opinions on a variety of topics.
