Recently, South actress Parvathy Thiruvothu and Deepika Padukone, both made the headlines after the roundtable conference held by critic Anupama Chopra. The discussion on cinema included Arjun Reddy, and Parvathy, who is a staunch feminist, slammed the character as misogynistic as that of Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh, all of it in front of Vijay Deverakonda. Backing Parvathy, Deepika too slammed Arjun Reddy and Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh saying that the cinema hugely influences society. Now, Vijay Deverakonda reacted to it on Wednesday during a session at the International Film Festival of India in Panaji.
After Parvathy’s take on Arjun Reddy, the Internet lauded her for it. Now, Vijay Deverakonda at the International Film Festival of India explained that he is irritated. He said that he’s usually very understanding and gives people the benefit of the doubt. He said, “I saw that there was a genuine angst and genuine intention behind these questions. But these people don't know what they are talking about. I feel they are very misplaced. I didn't mind the question. I love Parvathy. I admire her work. What irritates me is the social media and media 'hadavidi'. People go nuts. They don't know what they are talking about." Vijay Deverakonda also mentioned that he dislikes the fact that people are celebrating at his cost. He said, “I dislike that people are celebrating at my cost. That's my issue. I don't care what you think of the film, misogyny or the interview.”
For those who came in late, Parvathy had criticized Arjun Reddy and said,“When a man is being misogynistic and abusive, and you show that in a way that incites applause in the audience, then that's glorification. There has to be commercial, there has to be fun, but without demeaning gender. I can feel lustful towards a character and not make it vulgar and dispensable. With respect bhi ho sakta hai. I'm definitely against such films which glorify such characters."
