With the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill by the Government, there are protests going on in several parts of the nation. A lot of people are opposing NRC and CAA. Meanwhile, the news of a former teacher getting arrested in Lucknow for being a part of a peaceful protest has made it to the internet. Turns out this teacher is also an actor who is a part of Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair's upcoming film A Suitable Boy. Her name is Sadaf Jafar. Mira took to Twitter to share her thoughts on this and said she is appalled by what's happening.
Reacting to the news, Mira wrote, "This is our India now - Appalling: our #SuitableBoy actress, Sadaf Jafar, beaten and jailed for peaceful protest in Lucknow! Join me in demanding her release." Sadaf was live from her Facebook when the protest was going on and reportedly, she wasn't a part of the violence that took place. Some miscreants started stone-pelting and Sadaf covered it live on social media. She is even heard talking to the police as to why they aren't taking any steps against the miscreants.
Quint has her niece saying, "She has been shifted to Lucknow jail now. She was subjected to severe police brutality." Sadaf's sister Shabana too shared information and said, "She has been beaten with a baton on her legs and hands. The police also kicked her on the belly, following which she had internal bleeding."
Meanwhile, UP Police took to Twitter and shared a video stating that Sadaf was arrested on December 19 on the accounts of creating a nuisance. The police stated that she had to undergo a medical checkup for the same and all the allegations leveled on them are baseless.
We await more updates on the same.
