India and Indians are all set to celebrate 72nd Republic Day. January 26 is celebrated across the nation with full enthusiasm where Indians hoist flags in every other street and residential society. However, due to the novel Coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Republic Day celebrations will be different. Just like every other year, the spectators will not be the same, as they will be limited owing to the COVID-19 guidelines. While everyone’s wondering how this year’s parade will be, special arrangements have been made across the capital for the 72nd Republic Day celebration.
Not only the audience, but there are a few more changes that we will see during the Jan 26th parade this year. Amid the Pandemic, since March 2020, this will be the first major public event that will take place, today. The Parade will kick-start at around 9 AM after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Amar Jawan Jyoti. President Ram Nath Kovind will hoist the national flag.
Speaking about where Republic Day can be watched then let you tell you that it will broadcast live on all TV channels of Doordarshan. It will also be aired on All India Radio and will also stream live on the official YouTube channel of Doordarshan and AIR.
For those who don’t know, the number of spectators has been reduced to 25,000 from 1.25 lakh. We will also witness a total of 32 tableaux at Rajpath. This will be the 2nd consecutive year when Parade will be held under the shadow of raging protests against laws passed by the Centre. The parade is also expected to be shorter. Instead of marching up to the Red Fort, Parade will now end at the National Stadium. For the first time in 55 years, there will be no chief guest too. UK Prime Minister was invited but owing to the COVID-19 travel ban, Me Boris Johnson politely declined the invitation.
