Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega actor Nishant Singh Malkani who essays the character of Akshat Jindal got candid with SpotboyE.com about his idea of becoming an actor, his favourite character, what he does on a non-working day and what is the difference between a TV show, web series and films in our segment 5W 1H. Read on to know what all he shared with us during this exclusive conversation:

What are the three things that fans need to know about Nishant?
One, I am a die-hard fan of movies. I love them as I just love watching performances of different actors. Both Bollywood, Hollywood and sometimes, even regional cinema. Second, I am a fitness freak. I have to go to the gym, no matter what. In fact, after completing this interview also, I am heading towards my gym. And the third thing is my coffee. So, black coffee is something which keeps me going and I can't live without it.

When did you decide to become an actor?
I never decided to become an actor. I was studying management at IIM Calcutta. And one day, when I was travelling in the metro, a person came to me and gave his card saying, ‘call me’ and before I could ask him why, he just got down. So, out of curiosity, I called him and he immediately said, ‘I think you should be a model’ to which I said, I can't be a model, as I am a student. He said, ‘just come to me and we will speak over it.’ So I went and he said, ‘you have to make a portfolio so that we can circulate it and you can do great in Calcutta itself.’ I was a little skeptical and thought yeh sab to bas filmon mein hota hai. Then I told him that I will make a portfolio, but I will pay you only if I get work. I was just trying to be safe as I was a management student so I knew how the industry works. After that, I got a lot of modelling assignments in Calcutta. And then, Allied Model, an online agency called me from Delhi and they offered me a 2-year contract. It was like a dream come true for me and I signed the contract. However, at the same time, I continued with my studies and shoots in Calcutta. One day, suddenly I got a call from Allied Model Management, Delhi. I remember that girl’s name was Ritu. She asked me, ‘Nishant are you interested in acting?’ I was like everything is going well, so I should say a yes! Eventually, I agreed. The girl asked me to audition for the Star One show, Miley Jab Hum Tum in which they were introducing a new main lead called Adhiraj. Now, that got me very excited as I thought to myself that I will be seen on Television. I was like, yeah, I will give the audition and she replied, ‘pack your bags and come to Mumbai.’ Then I called up my parents and said, ‘Mom dad, I have to go Mumbai for an audition.’ Luckily, they were in my favour and on my way back, Ritu called me and asked as to how soon I could shift to Mumbai. I asked why, she said, ‘you have got the role’. And that's how I became an actor.

That’s great! Now tell us, why should people watch your show Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega?
Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega is a feel good show. It's rid of all high intensity drama. Our only focus is making the audience happy. In this show, there is a girl who is too innocent and carefree and who tries to do something and ends goofing up. At the same time, she is with a boy who is extremely supportive, very intensely involved with her and always protective. So, the chemistry between them is quite relatable. I personally feel that’s one of the major reasons why you should watch Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega. It’s just a nice feel good entertaining show.

Who is your favourite onscreen character?
Answering about my favourite onscreen character would be difficult. There are a lot of characters I have seen on TV and films since my childhood. But till date, the best character for me has to be Shaktimaan. I’m sure million of kids are in love with him and I am one of them. Even though, I’m grown up today, I still miss him and want him to come back on TV. And if it does happen, I will not miss a single episode as I am the biggest fan of Shaktimaan.

Where are you most likely to be found on a non-working day?
Home on my bed. We guys work for 12-14 hours a day. Then I have to hit the gym. Then travelling time and then you also have to give time to your personal life. So I hardly get time to sleep. So whenever I get a single off, I just don't want to come out of my bed. Like it’s my week off today and it’s quarter to evening, I just woke up an hour back.

How different is it working in a TV show, web series and films?
A web series gives you a chance to perform as real as you want. Because the script is real and there is no censor board involved. So it is like behaving real. Like in real life, we don't follow manners and tameez always. But if you are working for a TV show, you have to maintain those aspects. Television is an everyday job. You have to go on set every single day and play one single character for years and years. And try new shades in the same character, otherwise it gets boring. When it comes to films, a movie is a bound script that you’re shooting for 30-40 days and you know the exact journey from where it’s starting and where it is going to end. In TV, several things are dependent on TRP's, like whichever character works, the focus shifts towards him. If the current track is not working, it gets changed overnight at times. So an actor has to be very flexible that whatsoever happens, ‘I am ready for the challenge’. Films are well-organised as you get the time to prepare and you get the time to perform too.
