The Kapil Sharma
Show, once the most sought-after platform for Bollywood folk to promote their
upcoming films, continues to struggle for the desired TRPs with the show’s
content failing to lure audiences. Kapil Sharma’s 'health issues' have added to
Sony's woes.
While the
introduction of Chandan Prabhakar and Bharti Singh seems to have not
drastically changed the show’s fortunes, we can’t help but notice that
A-listers such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ranbir Kapoor
are missing from the platform as well.
Let’s begin from
the just released Toilet: Ek Prem Katha starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi
Pednekar. The film has got off to a flying start at the box-office, but note
well that the cast stayed away from promoting the project on The Kapil Sharma
Show. Mind you, the stars were aggressively promoting the venture on social
media and also took to shows including Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Bhabi Ji
Ghar Par Hai and Dance + 3 among others.
Last night, one
of the fans tweeted to the show’s writer, Raaj Shaandilyaa, asking him about
the reason behind Akshay’s absence from the platform. In response, he wrote,
“Avoiding TOILET HUMOR...Lol...Dates ka issue... (sic).”
Avoiding TOILET HUMOR
— Raaj #Bhoomi (@writerraj) 11 August 2017
Lol...
Dates ka issue... https://t.co/S2qnRQNXNE
While Raaj may
think that it’s a witty reply to the fan, we surely don’t. To begin with, The
Kapil Sharma Show has had evident instances of using slapstick comedy to humour
audiences. Hence Raaj’s remark of avoiding ‘toilet humour’ is distasteful to
say the least. Why holier- than-thou suddenly?
Secondly, when
you talk of date issues Mr Shaandilyaa, whose dates are you referring to?
Akshay’s or Kapil’s? Don’t you think it’s necessary to specify these things
when a superstar like Akshay Kumar is concerned?
Also, we refuse
to believe that Kapil wasn’t in the loop about the tweet, which makes matters
even worse.
Ideally, Raaj
should have tagged Kapil in the post and the host should have clarified his
intentions.
Does it take a
scientist to get the basics right?
Let’s rewind to
other stars who have refrained from turning up on The Kapil Sharma Show. Shah
Rukh Khan and Imtiaz Ali were all set to shoot with the comedian to promote Jab
Harry Met Sejal when Kapil fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital.
Days later, it was said that Shah Rukh, Anushka Sharma and Imtiaz will finally
shoot with the host. However, that never materialised and the platform missed
out on star power.
Salman Khan With The Cast Of Super Night With Tubelight
Salman Khan, who
was a regular on the show, too ditched it and instead shot for a special 2-hour
episode called Supernight With Tubelight which aired on the same channel. The
episode featured Kapil’s former teammates Sunil Grover, Ali Asgar, Sugandha
Mishra and Sanket Bhosale among others. The superstar also promoted Tubelight
on shows including Nach Baliye 8, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs and Taarak Mehta
Ka Ooltah Chashmah among others.
Up next, Ranbir
Kapoor was in his element when he appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show to promote
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil with Anushka Sharma in tow. But when it came to spreading
the word about Jagga Jasoos, the actor gave the show a miss.
Here again,
Ranbir and Katrina Kaif promoted Jagga Jasoos on popular shows like Sa Re Ga Ma
Pa Li’l Champs, Nach Baliye 8, Sabse Bada Kalakar (Ranbir was present sans
Katrina) and SIIMA (South Indian International Movie Awards) 2017 to name a
few.
We repeat, wasn’t
The Kapil Sharma Show, not too long ago, THE FIRST PREFERRED by almost EVERY
CELEBRITY to publicise their precious upcoming films?
