Lock Upp winner Munawar Faruqui was supposed to perform in Delhi for his scheduled show on August 28. However, the show has been cancelled as Delhi Police believe that Faruqui’s show may “affect communal harmony.” The Police have reportedly denied permission to the comedian to perform in the national capital after Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) wrote written to the Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, requesting to cancel Munawar’s show.

As per the latest reports, Vishwa Hindu Parishad wrote the letter to Delhi Police Commissioner on August 25 and alleged that “communal tension arose in Bhagyanagar because of jokes Munawar made on Hindu Gods.” In the letter, he also mentioned that if Munawar’s show is not cancelled, members of the VHP and Bajrang Dal will stage protests. The local central district police also wrote a report where they stated that the show will affect “communal harmony in the area.” Following this, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Licensing, OP Mishra refused to give the comedian permission to perform in the city. This is not the first time when Munawar has faced a situation like this. In the past too, his shows have got cancelled. Last week, his comedy show in Bengaluru was cancelled for the second time. It is being reported that the Bengaluru Police cancelled the show as its organisers did not take prior permission to hold the event.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Munawar Faruqui became a household name after he emerged as the winner of Ekta Kapoor’s reality show Lock-Upp. The buzz has it that Faruqui will next be seen on Salman Khan-hosted reality show Bigg Boss 16.
