The shoot of popular TV show Ye Hai Mohabbatein was stalled last night after the producers and workers’ union clashed over payment.

Trouble started when Mihika’s (Avantika Hundal) wedding was being shot. Since Mihika is an important character -- she is female protagonist Ishita’s (Divyanka Tripathi) younger sister -- the makers decided to make the shaadi ka sequence a grand affair.

So, there were about 40 extras -- to play the guests and the crowd, of course -- and actors including Divyanka on the set.

Obviously, shooting such an elaborate sequence takes time and the junior artistes, who were working from
9 am to 9 pm, were asked to extend their working hours till midnight. This request didn’t go down well with some union members, who objected.

Their logic was simple. They pointed out that junior artistes work in 3 shifts -- 7 am-7 pm, 9 am-9 pm and 2 pm-2 am. The protesters said since the junior artistes were being made to work extra, they should be paid double, as that’s what the union rules state. No agreement could be reached on that and the shoot was stopped.

Krishna Mukherjee, who plays Aliya in the show, said, “It’s a pack-up for us. Looks like there’s some issue between the production team and workers’ union”.

A crew member added, “The shoot did get extended, but it’s not as if we wouldn’t have paid. The production team had thought of paying them a little extra, but some union members halted the shoot.”

Anyway, the good news is, raat gayi, baat gayi. We hear, shoot started afresh today morning and is on even now.
