One of the longest running shows on Indian television Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been making the headlines over the past few weeks because of sexual and mental harassment against producer Asit Kumarr Modi. Actresses Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, Priya Ahuja and Monika Bhadoriya, who has been a part of the show for a long time, in a series of interviews, had opened up about the injustice they and other female actors had to face at the hands of Modi and his team.
The entire controversy had led to a major drop in the show’s TRP ratings during the last week of May. It was reported that while the ratings of the show always fluctuated, it had slipped out of the Top 10 list and had made it to the 11th spot. Now, according to the new list that was announced earlier in the day, the show has managed to make its entry in the Top 10 list. The show has garnered the ninth spot with 1.9 ratings in the previous week. Talking about the ongoing controversy, the actresses have opened up about harassment and mistreatment they faced at the hands of the makers. From their social media posts and media interactions they fearlessly recalled how the makers made their life a living hell. From not paying them their dues, passing sexist remarks, to threatening to ruin their career, many details came in the limelight. Owing to everything, netizens had even taken to Twitter and requested the makers to end the show, rather than dragging it out. For the unversed, the incident that urged Jennifer to take action against the makers of the show happened on March 7. She had informed the makers earlier that she wanted a half day as it was her wedding anniversary and Holi and her daughter was really excited to celebrate the day with her. However, instead of letting her leave, project head Sohail Ramani and executive producer Jatin Bajaj threatened her. According to recent reports, Mumbai police has started an investigation into the complaint of sexual harassment filed by Jennifer against producer Asit Kumarr Modi.
