Yesterday, Pakistan's Supreme Court reinstated a ban, which will now not allow the airing of Indian content on television channels across the nation. The Supreme Court's rule overturns the 2017 order passed by the Lahore High Court.

It all began when Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Saqib Nisar was hearing a case in the Supreme Court's Karachi registry The case pertained to the broadcast of foreign content on Pakistani TV channels and was filed by United Producers Association.

According to a report in Dawn News, the top judge fumed saying, "They are trying to (obstruct the construction) of our dam and we cannot even ban their channels?" He ordered that the broadcast of Indian shows to be "shut down"  across the country. He went on to also add that authorities should "only air appropriate content."

For those who've come in late, back in 2016, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had imposed a total ban on the airing of Indian content on local television as well as FM radio channels. The decision stemmed largely from the fact that there had been similar actions taken by Indian organisations in respect to Pakistani shows being aired in India, and Pakistani artistes working in India.

However, last year the Lahore High Court had declared that "the world has become a global village" and saying so had lifted the PEMRA-imposed ban.
