Television actress Sumbul Touqeer Khan became a household name, when she stunned everyone with her versatile performance in Star Plus’ Imlie. Having started her journey in the entertainment industry as a child actress, she cemented herself in the hearts of the audience as she became the first teenager to have stayed in the Bigg Boss house for over 100 days, getting eliminated a week before the finale of the 16th season. As she has started a new journey with the serial ‘Kavya – Ek Jazbaa, Ek Junoon,’ she opened up about how criticism of her dark skin tone affected her mentally.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, she was asked about experiences in her career that she considers a roadblock. Recalling her experiences, she explained how she had ‘alag tarah ke roadblocks’ as no one stopped her physically from doing what she wanted. However, she felt stopped when they subtly criticised her for her skin tone. It mentally affected her when she heard the comments on her dark complexion, in the beginning of her career. She went on to share how things started to change when she got her first show as the lead. Calling it one of the biggest problems she has faced in her life and in her career, she revealed that she has come a lot ahead in life to know not to let such comments affect her anymore.
On the work front, she has returned to the small screens with the serial ‘Kavya – Ek Jazbaa, Ek Junoon’. Co-starring Mishkat Varma, and Anuj Sullere, the show follows the journey of an aspiring IAS officer who has to balance her personal and professional life. The show started airing on September 25 on Sony Entertainment Television.
