The news of Shaurya Shah, the child artiste who was getting a lot of love and appreciation for his role of Kairav in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, quitting the show, created a lot of noise yesterday. A social media post from Shaurya’s account read that the child is leaving the show citing ill-health. However, it was deleted later. A few fan clubs got the grab of the post in meantime and the news spread like wildfire. Some reports later said that it was Shaurya’s tantrums which cost him the show.
With so many theories revolving around, we decided to contact Shaurya’s mother, and know what exactly transpired. Here’s our conversation with Mrs Shah, where she tells us why the social media post was deleted and also reveals that it was the production house, Director’s Kut, who took the decision of replacing Shaurya. Excerpts below:
Shaurya is not a part of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai because of his ill-health, but many reports claim that he was throwing tantrums on-the-sets. What’s your take?
I know. By now 100 stories must be floating around but the truth is that Shaurya is down with viral fever, past 5 days and he couldn’t go for shoots. In fact, he has not attended his school even today. I have all his medical certificates as proof too. So, they (production house, Director’s Kut) had to replace him on immediate basis.
So, it was the production house’s call to replace him?
Yes, in a way. They had called Shaurya for a one-day shoot, but we said he is not in a condition. Although after a bit of discussion we went ahead for the shoot yet he couldn’t sustain for more than 2 hours and we had to get him back. However, they required him for 8-10 hours, which was not possible, so they had to go for a replacement.
But it was just viral, they didn’t agree to wait for a few days for him to recover and resume, considering he was receiving a lot of accolades for the role?
No, they didn’t have any bank episodes with Shaurya, so it was not possible for them to wait.
Were you okay with the decision? Shaurya must have got attached to the show.

Yes, he was attached but health comes first. We did feel bad for a few days but as I said, Shaurya’s health is our priority. The new kid, who will be replacing Shaurya, has already been decided. And that’s the reason I even posted it on social media to avoid any confusion, however, had to delete it later.
The production team called me and said to pull down the post because they didn’t want the news of Shaurya quitting the show to go out before they introduce his replacement.
No other reason for him to quit- like long working hours?
That was an issue earlier, but we spoke with the production team and sorted it out. It was all going fine until he caught this viral and we had to take this call.
