Yesterday, Arun Govil who plays the lead role of Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, made headlines when he stated that neither central nor state government honoured them or the show with any award. After being a rage in 90s, Ramayan has return to Doordarshan during the lockdown. While the show has now become netizens’ favourite, Arun Govil’s statement of them not being felicitated with any award made the show trend on social media. Soon after his tweet, we saw #AwardForRamayan trending on twitter.
Now, when Sunil Lahri, who plays Lakshman in the mythological show, was asked about Arun Govil’s statement, he told Pinkvilla, “I have seen that our fans on Twitter have been trending that Ramayan should be given an award. But, I think by bagging an award or by accepting it, one can satisfy their ego that they were felicitated. However, there are so many actors in our industry who have won awards but still don't have enough work.”
He then added that the biggest award for them is that audiences are loving them. “Nothing is above that. They are genuinely of the opinion that we have done a good job, convincing performance, and they feel that if there were such characters in real life, they were like this. I think world recognition and adulation we are getting is nothing above an award,” he added.
