Sony TV did not
air the controversial show, Pehredaar Piya Ki, last night. Cast and crew
including actors Suyyash Rai and Jiten Lalwani are rattled by the decision...
Pehredaar Piya
Ki has been in controversy ever since the first promo of show was aired and now
the latest update is that the show has been taken off air. No episode was
telecast yesterday (August 28) evening.

Here's an official statement by the channel (SONY TV) on taking the show off air, "Effective 28th August 2017, we are pulling off our programme, Pehredaar Piye Ki, from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial will be disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it, namely, its crew and cast, we (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows. We are grateful to all the artists, producers and fans of our shows and request you to graciously support the viewership of our newer ventures."
While talking to
a section of media, actor Jiten Lalwani, who stars in the show, says, “Yes. If
the episode hasn’t aired then you know the news is true."

“If this is
happening, then I am shocked. I was waiting to re-enter the show after the
leap. Tejaswi is a close friend so I wanted to be a support to her and work
with her. I wanted the show to do well as a lot of hard work goes into a show
when it is launched. So many people including technicians will lose their jobs
when the show shuts,” Suyyash Rai said while talking to the media.
It has actually
come as a surprise because recently a petition was filed against Pehredaar Piya
Ki demanding a ban on the show, and post that, I&B Minister, Smriti Irani
supported public’s opinion and said that Pehredaar Piya Ki will now play in a
late night slot of 10 pm. Also, it would run an advisory disclaimer
throughout the show, saying that the show does not promote child marriage and
it’s a work of fiction.

And then the
officials of Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) met for a
discussion, post which a statement was issued saying, "We had a monthly
meeting and the channel officials were called for a discussion, which went on
for quite long. After everything, they were directed that the timing of the
show should be shifted to a late night slot of 10 pm and that they
must run a disclaimer.”
The show was all
set to take a 12 years leap in October but looks like that will not happen
anymore.
