TV reality show Bigg Boss has become one of the most popular shows in the last couple of years. TV audiences eagerly wait to watch the drama happening under the roof, followed by Salman Khan giving out his take on it every year. Looking at the popularity of the show and the TRPs it garners for the GEC, as per reports a Chennai based firm tried their hands at putting up something similar for the audience’s entertainment, but have been hacked off by Bombay High Court after being discovered about it.
As per reports in Times of India, a name company named Andaman Xtasea Events Pvt Ltd had conducted auditions, put out advertisements and had also rented a villa or a bungalow followed by the installation of cameras; clearly hinting of it to be a copy of Bigg Boss or Big Bro, leading to copyright infringement act. A plea was filed by the original creators of this show Endemol Shine Nederland Producties along with its Indian branch, to ask the makers of this Chennai based firm to stop producing the show.
This said company has used taglines such as as “isse apna hi ghar samjho” or “yeh bhi toh apna hi ghar hai” which were to pull out by the Bombay High Court’s Justice BP Colabawalla. Though AXEPL had earlier agreed to put a closure to it after they received a legal notice from ESNP, they later secretively planned to shoot it informed a private investigator hired to keep a close eye on them.
AXEPL were planning to shoot this copied version in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This whole copy act came to light in November 2019 as per reports from the representative of ESNP Advocate Hiren Kamod.
As per reports, the investigation also claimed of the show makers having plans to air it on two YT channels, one of which being a local news channel from Union Territory. Not stopping here, they also had copied the logo of this show which is an eye.
After the court’s observation in this entire case of copy, it was reported of, “a systematic attempt to come as close as possible to the ESNP trademarks and show to deceive the public or somehow associate the impugned mark and show with the plaintiffs.”
