Zee TV’s Ishq Subhan Allah, which premiered on March 14, made a smashing entry into Top 10 in its first week of going on-air. The show stars Eisha Singh and Adnan Khan and deals with the pertinent issues of Triple Talaq and women empowerment.

However, Eisha was not the first choice for the show. Our well-placed sources tell us that Dipika Kakar was offered the part.

Says a source, “The makers approached Dipika Kakar for the role first. However, she is already doing JP Dutta’s Paltan and Colors’ Entertainment Ki Raat. Thus, the actress couldn’t allot dates for Ishq Subhan Allah. Eisha Singh then came on-board.”

The show tells the love story of Kabeer (Adnan) and Zara (Eisha), both devout followers of Islam, who happen to interpret the Quran very differently. While Kabeer is a ‘maulvi’ (priest) who abides by the widely followed, traditional moral ethical code of conduct, Zara is a well-educated young woman who applies the teachings of Allah to a logical, liberal way of life based on modern fundamentals of practicality, rationality, gender equality, justice and fairness.

Talking about her character in the show, Eisha Singh recently told a leading portal. “I come from a family where no one ever told me that you are no less than a boy. Hence, I have grown with strong opinions and I really believe in the fact that women are equal to men in every way. As for Zara, she is much more confident than me and she is inspiring for every girl, who wants to voice her thoughts out.”
