Jittery Colors pulls out Bajirao Mastani card to counter Kapil Sharma’s Sony show

The Colors vs Sony war has further intensified. Kapil Sharma, who bid farewell to Colors on a bitter note early this year, is all set to start a new innings on Sony with The Kapil Sharma Show. As SpotboyE has already told you, the first episode will be aired on April 23 (Saturday) at 9 pm with none other than Shah Rukh Khan as the guest (Shah Rukh Khan in the first episode of Kapil Sharma's new show, Feb 18th).

Here comes the interesting part. Colors, which had replaced Kapil’s show (Comedy Nights With Kapil) with Comedy Nights Bachao featuring Krushna Abhishek and Bharti Singh, doesn’t seem to be confident about their choice anymore.

Looks like all their ‘we-don’t-care-about-Kapil’ claims were nothing but hogwash. And why are we saying this? On 23 April at 9 pm, when the maiden episode of Kapil’s new show kicks off on Sony, Colors will NOT air Comedy Nights Bachao.

Instead, the channel has decided to go for a break-less telecast of Bajirao Mastani. Imagine airing one of the biggest blockbusters last year without a single break! Seems, Colors doesn’t even want to take the risk of viewers switching channels during ad-breaks.

But what are they scared of? Come to think of it, April 23 is just another Saturday -- it’s not even a special occasion to justify such a big change in programming schedule. There seems to be only one answer: The Kapil Sharma Show.

Colors seems to be trying every trick in the book to ensure that Kapil’s new show fails on the TRP charts.  That too, on Day 1. For those who don’t remember, they had also ‘sabotaged’ the final episode of Comedy Nights With Kapil by editing out his emotional farewell speech (Colors chops Kapil Sharma's farewell speech, Jan 25th).

However, Kapil’s camp is least perturbed by such news. “They can air Bajirao Mastani one Saturday. But what are they going to do every week after that? Nobody can sustain these kind of attacks,” says a team member.

We wonder what Krushna, the host of Comedy Nights Bachao, has to say on this. In the wake of the Kapil-Colors fallout, he had lashed out against the former, calling him insecure and a coward. “Woh toh maidan chhod ke chala gaya. I can eat the entire cake now. I have nothing to fear. I have good content and a supportive channel,” he had told SpotboyE then (Kapil Sharma felt insecure and ran away from the battlefield, Jan 31st).

Krushna, doesn’t look like your bosses share that confidence, Think about it, why would they attain the rights of a blockbuster film and ‘sacrifice’ all that ad revenue?

Well, Colors may not be working with Kapil anymore, but they have surely not succeeded in getting him out of their minds.  He is their biggest preoccupation these days -- be it in their boardrooms, cubicles or even the reception, every conversation and thought seem to be centered around the actor-comedian.
