Indian Idol 12 has been grabbing the headlines lately, for all the wrong reasons. Recently, the makers of the show found themselves in trouble after the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) accused the makers of the show of portraying ‘Alibaug’ in poor light. MNS Chitrapat Sena chief Ameya Khopkar demanded an apology for Aditya Narayan’s ‘Alibaug’ remark. Now, Aditya Narayan has issued an apology for his comment, stating that it was never his intention to hurt anyone.

He took to his Instagram and first posted a written apology, which read, “With a humble heart and folded hands. I want to apologise to the people of Alibaug and everyone who has been hurt by my sentence on a recent episode of Indian Idol that I’m currently hosting. The intention was never to hurt anyone. I have immense love and respect for Alibaug. My own sentiments are connected with the place, it’s people and this soil.” He also posted a video of him apologizing, on his Instagram stories.

The controversy arose after Aditya Narayan was seen asking a contestant on Indian Idol 12 if he thinks that they have come from Alibaug.

During a Facebook live session, Ameya Khopkar said in Marathi, that Aditya Narayan made a derogatory comment about Maharashtra's Alibaug. "People on these Hindi channels so easily say, ‘Hum Kya Alibaug se aaye hai kya?’, and I think they are not aware of the rich cultural heritage that comes from Alibaug. If we, people of Alibaug, get upset, they don’t know what we can do, we won’t let the show take place. With this comment they have insulted us," he said.

He further said that he had informed the channel, the makers of the show, as well as Aditya's father Udit Narayan, and has demanded an apology.
