The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an advisory based on the observation that young children are seen performing dance moves on several dance based TV reality shows imitating grown up actors or performers and as such, these moves are inappropriate for kids.

This advisory was issued on Tuesday and it asks private satellite television channels to avoid gestures, actions and dance moves performed by the kids that seem rather obscene and inappropriate for their age.

“These moves are often suggestive and age-inappropriate. Such acts may also have a distressing effect on children, impacting them at a young and impressionable age," a statement from the ministry said.

"The Ministry has accordingly issued an Advisory to all private satellite TV channels to avoid showing children in indecent, suggestive and inappropriate manner in dance reality shows or other such programmes. The channels have been further advised to exercise maximum restraint, sensitivity and caution while showing such reality shows and programmes," the release added.

This means that famous dance reality shows like Super Dancer, Dance India Dance L’il Masters,  SaReGaMaPa L’il Champs, Indian Idol Junior will now have to be cautious with regards to this matter. Although no TV reality show has specifically been named by the ministry, there are several popular reality shows that will be under the radar.

The statement further added  that all private satellite TV channels are expected to abide by the provisions contained in the Programme & Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995. In accordance with these rules, it further states that no programme which denigrates children should be aired on TV which are meant for children should not contain any explicit scenes of violence or any bad language.
