One of the most liked shows during the first lockdown that helped people make sense of things was Buddha, a show that revolved around the life of Prince Siddhartha, originally on DD & Zee TV starting Himanshu Soni as the main protagonist.
He shares, "When I came to Mumbai, I was adamant to get work as a main lead. I knew what I wanted.
God has been kind & I got my first break in the first few months. I didn't choose mythological space but it chose me. I wasn't following a pattern. It all happened organically. At one point I thought I'd be doing mythological shows all through my acting career. I didn't want to break free but I was itching to try something new. Even my wife Shetall convinced me to widen my horizons.I was worried the industry would typecast me, but it was rather the opposite. My director had seen my work in Buddha, in my show where I've portrayed the Nav Rasas ( nine emotions), that helped me bag a role where I play a man with multiple emotions layered in one character."
"Mythological shows is like coming home. But what I'm doing now is out of my comfort zone & it has made me excited like a child as it is something new. I hope every actor gets this opportunity where he/ she is not stereotyped. I've heard of actors drop out of great shows for the fear of being typecast. It is the ugly truth but hopefully it is now changing. An actor is an actor after all & he is a good one, he can be anything," Himanshu adds.
