TV heart-throb Eijaz Khan has started shooting for the TV serial Meri Awaaz hi Pehchan Hai, in which he is portraying a film producer-director who has a keen ear for music and talented singers.

The time era is during the 1980s. Eijaz Khan’s demeanour is expected to carry shades of Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

When spotboye asked Eijaz about whether he will be salt-and-pepper haired and
bearded, bespectacled and wear ethnic outfits, he was quick to clarify, “No, not at all. The aim is not to caricature Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir. The music baron I am playing, will just attempt to convey Sanjay sir’s aesthetic attitude and the gift for creating classy music.”

As for his appearance and outfits, Eijaz added, “I have been styled in sync with the
retro-‘80s. Care is being taken to be authentic. The suits, shirts, trousers and accessories are in keeping with that decade.”

Currently Eijaz is shooting with Amrita Rao, whom he describes as a “very
spontaneous actress who has been perfectly cast. Just yesterday, she completed quite a complex shot in one take.”

The actor accepted Meri Awaaz hi Pehchan Hai  after the highly-rated serial Laut Aao
Trishna wound up.  According to the actor,“Although I’ve been toying with the idea of moving towards films films full-time, here was an offer I couldn’t refuse since it is being produced by Nivedita Basu whom I consider my mentor ever since the days I started out with Balaji Telefims. Now, she is in an independent producer in her own right.”

Meanwhile, Eijaz Khan is waiting for the release of his two feature films which are in
the final stages of post-production. One of them is Zainab and the other Pampapur ki Ramleela, both of which deal with topical subjects.

How come Eijaz hasn’t been signed on again by Aanand L Rai after he featured in the
the two Tanu Weds Manu films? “Aanand sir has been extremely kind and encouraging always,” the actor responded. But maybe I’m not exactly his favourite.”
