Being a celebrity isn’t easy, and it comes with its own pros and cons. Actress- VJ Divya Agarwal, who lost her father Sanjay Agarwal in October, was trolled online after she posted pictures of herself, days after her father’s death. Now, Divya Agarwal has reacted to the brutal trolling she was subjected to. In an interview with Bombay Times, Divya said that the insensitive comments weren’t affecting her personally, but she’s worried about those who face similar attacks on social media.
Divya said that she returned to work 2 days after her father’s death, and that her work requires her to hide her real emotions, wear make-up and look happy. Being the sole earning member of the family now, Divya said that she has to keep working for her mom and younger brother and keep herself distracted. “I could have cried and grieved in public, as was expected by the people, but that would have affected my loved ones. After dad, my younger brother looks up to me, I have to be strong for him,” said Divya.
Divya further added that grieving is personal, and she doesn’t require validation from people. “I can’t mourn the way people want me to, is there a rule book for it? I haven’t allowed anyone to put a garland on his picture or my mom to wear white. In fact, no one wore white at his funeral. I want to celebrate his life, I don’t want to be constantly reminded that he is no more” Divya told Bombay Times.
Divya Agarwal’s father died following Coronavirus related complications. She said that she lives in Bandra with Varun Sood, and wasn’t allowed to meet her dad at the hospital. Divya’s mom and brother had also been infected with COVID-19, and they fortunately recovered, however, her father already had several health issues, and he succumbed to COVID-19.
