Actor Chandrakant Pandya, who played the character of Nishad Raj in the very popular mythological show of the 1990s, Ramayan, passed away on Thursday morning. He was 72. According to an ETimes report, the actor had been suffering from many age-related ailments.
Actress Dipika Chikhlia, who is known for playing the role of Goddess Sita in Ramayan, took to social media and informed her followers about his sudden demise. Sharing his picture, Dipika wrote, "#RIP Chandrakant Pandya – Nishad Raj of Ramayan."
The late Chandrakant Pandya became a household name after his performance in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan. Notably, Nishad Raj was Lord Ram's childhood friend, who helped him in the initial few months of his 14-year long 'vanvaas'.
Apart from television, Pandya featured in several movies -- the most prominent ones being Prem Lagna, Pyar Ho Gaya, Parivaar Na Pankhi, Hote Hote Pyar Hogaya, and Chundadi Ni Laaj.
Chandrakant Pandya was also famous for his close friendship with veteran actor Amjad Khan. The ETimes report says the two completed their higher education together.
Chandrakant Pandya had worked in plays with actors Upendra Trivedi and the late Arvind Trivedi.
Earlier this month, actor Arvind Trivedi passed away at the age of 82, due to a heart attack. The veteran actor was known for playing the role of Ravan in Ramayan.
