Shinde had debuted in the year 1999 and played the lead role of Angoori Bhabhi in the popular serial Bhabhi ji Ghar Par Hain but quit the show in 2016 amidst huge controversy. In October 2017, she participated in Big Boss 11 and won the same on in January 2018. Shilpa's (late) father Satyadev Shinde was a High Court judge, he passed away in 2013. "But it has come as a surprise that she might take to politics. Clearly, this is a new development," says a source.

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi star Smriti Irani is a classic case in point- Currently, Irani is the Textiles Minister and MP (Bhartiya Janta Party). It remains to be seen if Shilpa, who has a big fan following in Maharashtra, is made to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls,
