Ekta Kapoor’s successful love saga Kasautii Zindagii Kay is being remade. This afternoon, we brought to you the first picture from the promo shoot where Erica Fernandes is seen giving the shot in a black suit and red dupatta – much like Shweta Tiwari in the original series.

Now, with a glimpse of the female lead, fans are undoubtedly curious about who will step into the shoes of Anurag Basu.

We had earlier told you that Shaheer Sheikh has been approached to play the part, but things didn’t work out and he opted for historical drama, Mughal-E-Azam, opposite Sonarika Bhadoria.

Now, SpotboyE.com has it that it’s a race between Barun Sobti and Ssharad Malhotra to play the lead.

A source close to the development told us, “Star Plus is keen that Barun comes on board whereas Ekta is considering Ssharad for the part.”

We texted Barun, Ssharad and Ekta for confirmation but they chose not to comment.

Barun Sobti was last seen in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3, while Ssharad is currently seen in Colors’ Kasam Teri Pyaar Ki which will end on July 27.

Remake of Kasautii Zindagii Kay created buzz ever since Ekta hinted on her Twitter by writing, “With a piece of my broken heart I wrote in 2001, 17 years later I Reboot it dipping in personal pain & lacing it with experiences of an older me! Bringing back my most successful love saga that ran for 9 yrs! Again I’ll take my broken heart & make it into art! #NamesToBeAnnounced".

The show depicted the iconic love story of Prerna (Shweta Tiwari) and Anurag Basu (Cezzane Khan). The lead couple shared combustible chemistry and continues to be one of the most popular TV jodis of all times.

Let’s see who between Barun and Ssharad grabs the part.
