Renowned television actress Rupali Ganguly rose to fame when she portrayed the character of Monisha in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. She went on to become a household name, with her current show Anupamaa. While she is currently one of the most loved actresses on TV, she has had to go through a lot of negative comments and criticisms. In a recent interview, she opened up about facing a lot of judgement for her post-pregnancy body weight and age.
Quoted by BollywoodShaadis, the 45-year-old actress recalled, “When I would take my son to the pram for a stroll, people would say ‘arrey tu toh Monisha hai na, kitni moti ho gayi’. Maybe someone must have said that in a very nice way, but you feel bad. Woh baat tab chubh jaati hai. An actress friend of mine came to meet me and she told me, ‘arrey tu toh aunty ban gayi’. These things affect you mentally, they stay and bother you. People don’t have the right to call you aunty, moti, you will decide what you want to be called.”

She went on to express how, despite headlining one of the most-watched shows on Indian television, she is constantly age-shamed on social media. Netizens often point out how she looks older than Gaurav Khanna, who plays the character of Anuj on the show, and how her wrinkles are visible. She reiterated how she is proud of her wrinkles and she is proud of what she is today. She added, “After three years of Anupamaa, I can say I accept the way I am.”
Talking about the show, the drama is at an all time high as Anupamaa starts her life anew after losing custody of Choti Anu to her birth mother Maya and Anuj leaving her for it.
