Amala Paul who prominently appears in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu films is a celebrated actress. She has been active in films for over a decade now. However, Paul’s stint in Telugu films has been shorter and brief compared to other language films. In a recent interview, she revealed the reason for doing very films in Telugu Industry.
While speaking to ETimes, Amala said that the Telugu industry was dominated by film families and their fans. She was quoted saying, “When I went to the Telugu industry, I realised that there was the family concept. There the industry is very much dominated by these families and their fans. And the kind of films that they were making at that point of time was very different. There would always be two actresses and we'd be there for the love scenes, songs and everything was very glamorous. They were very commercial films and I couldn't connect much with that industry at that point of time so I did very few films there.”
Further, the ‘Thalaiva’ actress mentioned that she did not face that kind of struggle in the Tamil industry, despite being an ‘outsider’. She asserted, “Luckily with me, when I made my acting debut with a Tamil film, I came at the time when filmmakers were exploring newcomers. I had my set of struggles, a year went by in meetings and auditions. But from the next year I started getting offers. But then I did two films which never got released. And then my third film, Mynaa, went onto to become a blockbuster of sorts. That made me a star overnight. So, then I started getting a lot of offers, because I had done a very meaty role. I was accepted as a performer and I went on to work with all the A-listers soon enough.”
For the unversed, between 2011 and 2015 the 30-year-old actress worked in only four Telugu films before leaving the industry. She made her debut with the Malayalam film Neelathamara at the age of 17.
