After Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, his father KK Singh had filed an FIR in Patna in which he made some serious allegations against Rhea Chakraborty. Rhea was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) last year, in connection with a drug case linked to Sushant’s death. She was later granted bail by the High Court, however, Rhea faced a lot of hatred and abuse online. Lakshmi Manchu was among those who spoke against the social media trial against Rhea. Lakshmi Manchu now reveals that she faced severe backlash for supporting Rhea.

While speaking at the India Today Conclave South 2021, Lakshmi Manchu opened up about being bullied for supporting Rhea Chakraborty. She said that she faced backlash, and was asked to stay off Twitter for a week. “As actors, we have something to fulfil. If you voice your opinion, you get bullied by trolls. I had to face backlash for supporting Rhea Chakraborty and was asked to stay off Twitter for a week.” In August last year, Lakshmi Manchu had shared a note on her social media, in which she had written that after watching Rhea's interview, she had thought a lot about whether she should respond or not.

"I have complete trust in the judiciary system and all the agencies that are involved in bringing justice to Sushant. But until then can we restrain from being evil and cruel and lynching of person and her entire family without knowing the facts. I can only imagine the pain the entire family is going through with these so-called media trials,” Lakshmi Manchu had written.

In September 2020, Lakshmi Manchu had also spoken against the way Rhea was treated and manhandled as she made her way to the police station. “This is beyond disgusting! This is no way a woman should be treated. How can we be so dreadful to someone & maintain no dignity for a human being. It is very heartbreaking to watch everything. #RheaChakraborthy,” she had written.
