Wednesday was a momentous occasion for every Indian as SS Rajamouli’s critically acclaimed film RRR’s song Nattu Nattu won at the Golden Globes 2023. The song was mentioned in the Best Original Song category against Taylor Swift’s Carolina, Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand, Rihanna’s Lift Me Up among many others. While the entire nation celebrated the win by expressing their joy through social media posts, singer Adnan Sami got into an altercation with Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

It all started when Reddy took to his official Twitter account to congratulate the entire team on RRR on their success. He wrote that the Telugu flag is flying high while sharing how the entire state is proud of their achievement. While his tweet irked many, singer Adnan Sami, who became an Indian citizen in 2016, called his tweet a separatist attitude. Quote tweeting Reddy’s post, Sami wrote, “Telugu flag? You mean INDIAN flag right? We are Indians first & so kindly stop separating yourself from the rest of the country…Especially internationally, we are one country! This ‘separatist’ attitude is highly unhealthy as we saw in 1947!!! Thank you…Jai HIND!”

While many supported him on his tweet and agreed with him, other’s including many ministers from Andhra Pradesh bashed him for his tweet. Netizens’ backed the minister’s tweet by saying how being proud of one’s state doesn’t make them less Indians. While many told him to stop overthinking on Twitter, some pointed out that India’s flag was made by Telugu person.

One said, “As a Telugu person, I have not seen any separate Telugu flag so far. Infact Indian flag was designed by a Telugu person Sri P. Venkayya. So don't worry, we don't have any separatist attitude. Infact most Telugu people suffer with "we are more Indian than other Indians" syndrome.” ALSO READ: Jr NTR Recalls Shooting For RRR With Ram Charan: SS Rajamouli Wanted Us To Hate Each Other, We Were Tortured For 65 Nights
