Poovachal Khader Passes Away Due To Covid-19: Veteran Malayalam Lyricist Who Penned Songs For Over 350 Films Died At Age 72

The Veteran lyricist in Mollywood, Poovachal Khader who has a record of penned more than 350 songs, passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. The lyricist was 72 and was reportedly undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at the Govt Medical College Hospital.

Poovachal Khader served Malayalam Film Industry for over five decades, he wrote lyrics over a thousand songs in more than 350 films. He credits his success to some of the biggest ever hits in Malayalam film music. There are some of his hits are evergreen songs like Natha nee varum kaloch, from Chamaram, Shararanthal thiri thaazhhum from Kayalum Kayarum, Aadya Samaagama lajjayil from Ulsavam, Sindoora Sandhyaykku Mounam from Choola, Ente Janman Neeyeduthu from Aattakkalasam, Itha Oru Dhikkari, Etho Janma Kalpanayil from Palangal, Naanamaaunno Poomaaname, Nirakkoottu and Anuraagini Itha En from Oru Kudakkeezhil.

Since Khader’s college days, he was much interested in poetry and wrote many poems and songs for stage and radio in the early days of cinema. He used to be one of the busiest lyricists in the 1970s and 1980s. Poovachal Khader's lyrics are also sung by the legends of the music industry like K J Yesudas, P Jayachandran, Vani Jayram, and S Janaki.

Poovachal Khader born in a village and he had penned lyrics for more than 900 songs for music maestros like K J Yesudas, P Jayachandran, Vani Jayram, S Janaki, and others. Poovachal Khader is survived by two daughters Thushara and Prasoona and his wife Aamina Beevi. He was under the treatment for coronavirus. As per reports, the last rites will be held today at Poovachal Juma Masjid.
