Over the last few years, cinema has kind of crossed over the barrier of language and subtitles. With a Korean film Parasite winning the Oscar for Best Picture, it proved that good cinema can’t be held off by any hurdle. Over here in India too, we have had multiple film industries in our country in different languages. There is Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi and Gujarati, among others. And with time, their popularity and acceptance has increased in the bigger Hindi market.

With films like Arjun Reddy, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Super Deluxe and Jallikattu doing well among the Hindi audience, the lines between industries of different languages have blurred. Several stars like Vijay Deverakonda, Ammy Virk, Samantha Akkineni and Vijay Sethupathi are coming to the Hindi films and similarly Hindi actors like Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday and Deepika Padukone are travelling South too.

Fahadh Faasil is one such actor who has predominantly worked in Malayalam cinema, but lately with his films like Joji and the upcoming film Malik, he has found recognition pan-India. Mention that to him and he says, “When I started, I kept wondering if even the Malayalis would watch my film. I was actually worried if my own people would see my films. Now, it’s more than what I could have asked for. The fact that cinema is travelling across languages is in itself a big thing for me. It’s a big blessing to be a part of the industry at this stage. My generation is actually witnessing a big change happening across the world. I am very fortunate, and as in school I used to say, my timing is very right,” he quips.

Apart from the Malayalam industry, Fahadh has already delved into Tamil cinema and with Allu Arjun’s Pushpa, he is all set to enter the Telugu industry as well. Ask him if there are any plans of coming to the Hindi films or have there been any offers, and he responds, “Yes, talks are happening. Let’s see how it pans out.” So, what kind of roles or films would he like to do in Bollywood? “I like Rajkumar Hirani’s films and I really enjoy them,” he concludes.
