Hema Committee Report’s findings has taken the Malayalam entertainment industry by storm with actresses opening up about the sexual harassment they have faced at the hands of many senior actors. In the midst of all the allegations, actress Minu Muneer opened up about her sexual assault experiences and revealed that she was compelled to leave the Malayalam film industry after ‘certain incidents’ transpired.

As reported by India.com, she shared that she suffered “physical and verbal offense” by many actors including a politician who served twice as a CPI(M) representative in Kerala’s Assembly. Minu stated, that she will be filing a complaint with the state police team, “assigned to look into the revelations which came up in the wake of the Hema Committee report.” She also brought up the serious allegations against an actor who tried to harm her during the shoots of Calendar (2009) and Nadakame Ulakam (2011).

Quoted by the media publication, she recalled how the actor had entered her room and pulled her on the bed. She said, “He entered the room and pulled me down on the bed saying that I will have to consider those who have to be considered for getting better chances. Later, I left that place.. Before that, while travelling by car, (another actor) told me that he would come to my room the next night. He too had knocked at my door during the night.”

Minu went on to add, “During a shooting in the state capital, when I was returning from a restroom, (this actor) caught me from behind and kissed me. I pushed him down and ran away. He also invited me to his flat. After I rejected the invitation, there was no issue from his side.”

It was in 2013, that she wanted to join the Association of Malayalam Movies Artistes, (AMMA). During the time, an actor who held a significant position in the organisation behaved unsavourily with her. She recalled, “A person who acted in three films is eligible for membership in AMMA. When I called him over the phone regarding filling out the application form, he invited me to his flat. While I was filling out the application form at his flat, he kissed my neck from behind. I ran out of the flat. I did not get the membership either.”

Because of the horrible experiences, she decided to leave the Malayalam film industry and relocate to Chennai. She concluded by stating that she is now seeking “justice and accountability” for all the sufferings and the trauma she has had to endure all these years.
