Gulzar Translates Rabindranath Tagore's Poems For New Generation

They are both masters in verse and now Rabindranath Tagore and Gulzar have been bought together on an album.

Shreya Ghoshal, composer Shantanu Moitra, Jaya Bachchan, Shaan and Gulzar himself were in the city to launch the album Gulzar In Conversation With Tagore. The album which comprises seven songs, is based on the works of Rabindranath Tagore, who laid the foundation of Rabindra Sangeet.

Gulzar, who translated the Bengali poems to Hindi for the album said, "It is very necessary to take Gurudev's poems to the masses and that's why we thought of this album. His poems are a part of our legacy which is why we thought of coming up with this timeless album."

Pink composer Shantanu Moitra has composed the tunes of the songs and Shreya Ghoshal and Shaan have rendered their vocals.

Talking about the album Shreya said, "All three of us have a very good connection with Rabindra Sangeet since our childhood. Its comes as a part of being a Bengali. This is a timeless album which is not created for having a long shelf life."

While Shaan feels  that the music industry has the responsibility of introducing youngsters to timeless music. "The younger  generation is not just about parties and discos. There are a lot of youngsters who are looking out for something that's very soothing and soulful. So its our responsibility to give them good music," explained Shaan.

During the launch of the album, Shreya and Shaan sung the songs from the album, while Gulzar and Shantanu Moitra spoke about the journey of each of the tracks on the album which was five years in the making.

Mirzya actress Saiyami Kher, singer Papon also attended the event.
