The Mozart of Chennai is hunting high and low for a plot in Mumbai's Western suburbs. AR Rahman wants to buy a plot anywhere between Juhu and Bandra. The questions that need to be asked: Is he shifting base? Has AR Rahman got bored of staying in Chennai? Does he want to now be in the hustle-bustle of this city?
Well, it's none of the above. Rahman wants a plot no doubt, but it is just that he wants to have a nice big set up in Mumbai, where he can drop by off and on. "It will be a big office set-up, which may also have studios like the ones he has in Chennai," says a source. And why so, now? "Well, it has been in Rahman's mind since a long time that he should have some facility structure in the heart of Bollywood, which is Mumbai. Often, filmmakers have to fly out for meetings and recordings both to Chennai. If and when the Mumbai set-up is ready, Rahman will start using it as a professional base. This does not mean that he will be in Mumbai for long durations. His heart is in Chennai, many meetings and recordings will continue in Chennai- but the Mumbai thing will be a provisional avenue," reveals the source.
AR Rahman
Rahman has 2 studios in Chennai- The Panchathan Record Inn and AM Studios. The Inn came up in 1989. Located very close to his home, it has been designed by Studio 440 and the state-of-the-art equipment is from Daxco Digital. 16 years later, in 2005, he set up AM Studios, part of a redevelopment and extension project of the Inn. Rahman also owns newly built KM Musiq Studios in Mumbai, London and Los Angeles.
