‘Deeply Affected By The Gruesome And Heinous Incident’: Shreya Ghoshal POSTPONES Her Kolkata Concert, Amid Rape-Murder Case Of RG Kar Doctor

Shreya Ghoshal has made a name for herself in the music industry with her melodious songs. Over the years, she has given voice to many iconic that are to date loved and adored by the fans. Being one of the most sought-after female singers in the music industry, she enjoys a huge fan base, across the country. On Saturday, she took to her official social media handle to announce that she has decided to postpone her upcoming concert in Kolkata, in the light of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case. 

Taking to her X (formerly known as Twitter) handle, she expressed ‘The Hearts Tour’ has been rescheduled from September to October. She revealed that she has been ‘deeply affected’ by the happenings in the State and as a woman thinking about the ‘brutality’ the young doctor went through “sends shivers down my spine.” She goes on to mention that the tickets booked by the fans will remain valid even during the new date. For the unversed, the ticket of the concert was priced at Rs 1749 and was supposed to be held at Netaji Indoor Stadium on September 14, 2024. 

Quoted by the Free Press Journal, her statement read, “I am deeply affected by the gruesome and heinous incident that recently took place in Kolkata. Being a woman myself, the very thought of the sheer brutality that she must have gone through is unthinkable and sends shivers down my spine. With an aching heart and with deep sorrow, my promoters and I wish to reschedule our concert ‘Shreya Ghoshal Live, All Hearts Tour Ishq FM Grand Concert’ which was originally scheduled for the 14th of September 2024 to a new date in October 2024.”


As soon as she posted her announcement on her social media platforms, fans took to the comment section of her post to laud her for standing up in solidarity with the heinous crime. Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh also welcomed Ghoshal’s decision by stating that the protests should take place all over as the disturbing incident is not just an issue of West Bengal. 


Talking about the 31-year-old Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder case, the trainee doctor was cruelly murdered and raped on August 9 at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The heinous crime reportedly took place late at night in the third-floor seminar hall of the chest department. The doctor had allegedly gone to rest in the hall during her 36-hour shift, on the day of her murder and rape. As per the reports, the officials found multiple lacerations and wounds on her body. The crime has sparked outrage on social media as well.
