He enthralled us with some lovely compositions like Kaise Hua, Pehla Pyaar, Main Taare this year and he has lots more in store for the listeners. We are talking about the very talented Vishal Mishra who’s raring to go with his web debut through the song Teri Hogayiaan from AltBalaji's Broken But Beautiful, Season 2.
As the song has released online, it was the right time to interact with the singer-composer. Excerpts from the conversation:
2019 has been a great year for you. Your songs from Kabir Singh and Saand Ki Aankh have been received so well. How does it feel?
I feel very grateful. It’s a blessing for an artist to be understood. When he/she makes something and everybody has a viewpoint about it, that’s all an artist can ask for.
If you had to choose a favourite song from the ones you’ve composed/sung so far, which one would it be?
Out of the 25 songs I have sung, all are special to me but Kaise Hua (Kabir Singh), Main Taare from Notebook- are the best that I’ve composed, then there is Pehla Pehla Pyaar from Kabir Singh, Teri Hogayiaan from Broken 2 that released today, Ki Honda Pyaar from Jabariya Jodi- these are some of the songs that are really close to my heart. These songs have made a massive amount of difference in my own psyche as a viewer.
The track Teri Hogayiaan from Broken 2 marks your web debut too and we hear it's your brainchild (sung, composed and produced the track). How was the experience?
l was really excited to get back to Ashwin Varde, Neeraj, Ekta Kapoor, Sarita Tanwar who are producers of Broken 2. I have worked with almost all of them on different projects like Kabir Singh and Jabariya Jodi. They showed me a few clippings from the show and said they needed a beautiful song for it. The tune struck my mind quite easily, I wrote it and sang it too. It’s a beautiful number about the vulnerabilities of love.
Romantic tracks come easily to you?
I am open to any genre. I like anything with soul. Even if it’s a dance number, it has to be soulful.
Speaking of OTT platform, do you think the audience today prefers watching digital shows over films?
OTT platform provides you the convenience of watching anything, anywhere, anytime. However, I feel theatres are never going to go out of fashion because the experience of being in a cinema hall is unmatched. And we have such tremendous stars who always attract a lot of people and they would continue doing so.
Any favourites or some actor on your wish-list, whom you want to lend your voice to?
I have been lucky enough to have had my share of crooning for the finest of actors in the industry. From Salman Khan, Irrfan, Shahid Kapoor to Sidharth Malhotra, Parineeti Chopra, Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar- my work has been associated with such great talent. But I would love to work with everybody. The idea is to contribute, it’s not about just making music.
Tell us about your upcoming projects?
It’s going to be an exciting 2020. I’m working on 3-4 films that are really exciting- one of them stars Paresh Rawal’s son in it; it’s a beautiful love story. Also, I’m going to release a single on my birthday which falls on Dec 8. It’s the best song that I have made this year.
How was it performing LIVE in Mumbai for the first time?
It was crazy. Initially, I was a little scared because you’re in the studio all the time. But when you do gigs that too in Mumbai on a Sunday, I was thinking what would be the response of people. But, I must tell you, it was total madness. When I see videos of that gig, I get goosebumps. People were so happy and seeing them, I was happier. Here's hoping I get to do more and more shows in future.
