How did you both come on-board for Mukkabaaz?
Nucleya: I was in Goa when Amit Trivedi called me.
At first, I thought that he wants to work with me since I have been sending him
songs regularly. But he told me that Anurag Kashyap wants my number. After
having a word with Anurag, I came up with the melody and called up Divine to
rap for me.
Divine: Nucleya clearly told me that he is not sure
whether the song will make its way to the film. It all depends on how the
makers like the song. However, a few days later, I got a message from him
saying that the makers have liked our song.
What was it like working with Anurag Kashyap?
Nucleya: Working with Anurag is great as he always
gives creative freedom. Like for instance, the song was supposed to be a sing
along track. However, as per the theme of the film I suggested to Anurag that
we should make something standalone. He told me to compose the alternate
version and eventually liked that one.
Divine: Meri toh sahi mein lottery lag gayi. Anurag
sir is Bollywood’s one of the finest directors. So, it’s always great working
with him.
You both belong to the indie music space. Do you think
the line between indie music and Bollywood music is gradually blurring?
Nucleya: The kind of work Anurag is doing ranges
between commercial and independent cinema which I can associate to very well as
my music too is borderline mainstream and independent. So, even though it’s a
Bollywood movie, it has an ingredient of independent cinema too.
Divine: Yes, the difference is slowly blurring as we
see many indie artistes working in Bollywood projects.
