19th February 1630, marked the birth of the legend and pride of the whole of Maharashtra, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The legendary king who gave Maratha their identity still lives in every Maharashtrian’s heart and will live there for all eternity. Thus, every year we celebrate 19th February as Shiv Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of this legendary king. We’ve learned about his life in schools, colleges, and have heard stories of him from our elders. His life has not only been noted in books but also our film industry has shown his depicted his life through various movies and TV series as well.
Talking about films, our Marathi industry has given some amazing movies, depicting the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Like the legendary director Bhalji Pendharkar’s movie Maratha Tituka Melvava. The film was a major hit film that showed Maharaj’s life till his coronation and the formation of the Maratha Empire. Then in 1952, the director again came up with another historical drama based on Maharaj’s life named Chhatrapati Shivaji. The film was a major hit, starring legendary actor Chandrakant in the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The good work of his father was continued by his son Prabhakar Pendharkar by stepping in his father’s footsteps. He gave a historical drama on Maharaj’s life. The director gave a legendary film named, Bal Shivaji, which is one of the notable films depicting Maharaj’s life. Then talking about the new technological films, director Nilesh Muley gave the first 2D animation film based on Maharaj’s life. The film went by the name Prabho Shivaji Raja and became a hit.
Talking about recent films on his life, director Digpal Lanjekar’s directorial debut Farzand is also among the films which depict Maharaj’s legend perfectly. The film is among the hit films which became blockbuster everywhere. So these are some of the films that described the life of our Janata Raja.
