This year the Navratri festival started on 7 October. Therefore, the first day of the Navaratri festival is known as Pratipada. The first day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Shailputri which means the daughter of a mountain as per the Sanatan scriptures. Shilaputri is said to be very bright like the crores of Sun. Her Vahan (Vehicle) is a Nandi (bull) and always carries a trident and a lotus in her hands. Also wears the moon on her head. However, the favorite flower of Goddess Shailputri is Jasmine.
