Navratri, one of the most auspicious festival in India, is round the corner. People have already started preparing for the nine day festival with full zeal and enthusiasm. However, this year there will be no garba due to the coronavirus. In states like Gujarat, West Bengal, where the festival holds importance, government has issued directions. Navratri is a nine day long festival and goddess Durga is worshipped.
DATE: Navratri will start from October 17. On every day the nine forms of Durga is worshipped. Every day has a particular colour to wear and significance. On October 26, Dussehra will be celebrated. Have a look on all the important dates:
October 17: Pratipada, Shailputri Puja
October 18: Dwitiya, Brahmacharini Puja
October 19: Tritiya, Chandraghanta Puja
October 20: Chaturthi, Upang Lalita Vrat
October 21: Panchami, Skandamata Puja
October 22: Shashthi, Saraswati Puja
October 23: Saptami, Kalaratri Puja
October 24: Ashtami, Mahagauri Puja
October 25: Navami, Ayudha Puja
October 26: Durga Visarjan, Dussehra
Timing: On the first date, kalash sthapna will be done. The timing for the Puja starts from 6:27 in the morning to 10:13 in morning.
Significance: The festival celebrates the defeat of Mahishasura by Goddess Durga. It signifies the victory of good over evil. People observe fast during Navaratri. On the last day the perform puja and break their fast.
Puja materials: Red chunari, lamp, ghee or oil, chowk, coconut, rice, kumkum, flowers, incense sticks, flower necklace, idol or photo of goddess, betel nut, paan, clove, cardamom, batashe, kalava and dry fruits.
Durga Puja is celebrated mostly in northern, eastern and western parts of India. Huge pandals are erected for the people. But this year it will be different as the festival will be celebrated inside home.
