Today we are celebrating Menstrual Hygiene Day 2020, the day is celebrated every year on 28 May. Motive of observing this day is raise awareness among women for personal hygiene during the periods. In our everyday life, while we are busy in activities such as brushing, bathing, and wearing clean clothes are a given, we tend to overlook the intimate hygiene. A poor feminine hygiene during the periods can lead to vaginal irritation, urinary tract infections (UTI), and even cervical cancer. So, when next time you are on your periods, take note of these tips to make your periods more hygienic.

Change your sanitary pad on time
You are advised to keep yourself clean during the periods. Keeping yourself clean is key to good menstrual hygiene. Make sure to change your sanitary pads every four to six hours. Using the same pad for an entire day can cause vaginal irritation, infection or even UTI.

Wash yourself properly
Wash your vaginal area properly whenever you use washroom or change your pad. This will help in removing all the harmful bacteria and ensure that your genitalia are clean. You can use a panty liners to absorb the excess discharge and ensure better hygiene.

Wear clean undergarments
Wash and wear clean undergarments. You are advised to change your undergarment daily, wearing the same undergarment can cause infection. Unclean underwear can lead to a bad odour during periods and put you at risk of infections.

Consume a good balanced diet
You might not feel like having something during periods. But a balanced and nutritious diet, especially during your periods, is of utmost important. Drink a good amount of water, to keep yourself well hydrated by drinking at least four to six litres of water in a day.
