Sanjay Dutt definitely misjudged this one. Torbaaz, based on Afghanistan's cricket world and the Talibaan warfare, will leave you bored and yawning throughout.
The movie is based around refugee camps and how the Talibaan uses child suicide bombers. The plot revolves around Naseer, played by Sanjay Dutt, who is going through an emotional turmoil after losing his wife and child in a bombing attack in Afghanistan. He then comes back to Afghanistan, from India, to fulfill his wife's dream of taking care of refugee kids and helping them build a better future.
It's then when he realises that the camp has children who have some serious talent when it comes to cricket. Out of them, a Pakistani child has been a part of Talibaan. He then starts training them at the camp for a cricket match and the journey begins to save the Pakistani child.
The story is inspirational and the plot is quite sensitive, however, the execution of the story is very weak. Screenplay has lot of flaws and the film keeps slipping. The director had a strong storyline to play with but he failed in bringing out the emotions.
Performance wise, Sanjay Dutt is just about average. The kids in the film are entertaining but unfortunately they also don't hold attention for long.
Overall, Torbaaz is a weak film which could have been made much better, had the execution fallen in place. I would say it's blah worthy and give it 1.5 stars.
