The series is a dramatic representation of the book The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away by financial journalists Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu. Hansal Mehta’s Scam 1992 opens with a Dalal, played by Shreya Dhanwanthary, receiving a tip from an SBI official about a ‘ghotala’ that involves Rs 500 Crore. Both the nervousness on the man’s face (Sharib Hashmi) and the mammoth amount sets Dalal and her partner Debashish on the hunt of a story which broke the biggest scam of the time, bringing to light the unholy nexus between Indian and foreign banks, financial institutions, godmen and the senior government functionaries.


Based on the book The Scam, the Sony LIV series produced by Applause Entertainment revolves around the story a boy named Harshad Mehta played by Pratik Gandhi, who belongs to a lower-middle-class Gujarati family, but eventually becomes the Most Wanted man in the country, with several agencies searching for him. He has immense love for the sport cricket, but lacks interest in pursuing his education, or studying for that matter. Harshad eventually steps into the world of stocks and shares, from where he starts building an empire for himself. Harshad manages to find the loopholes in the system and ultimately, this scheming genius becomes the King of the Stock market. The story of Harshad takes an interesting turn when a journalist receives a tip-off about a Rs 500 Crore scam, which exposes not only Mehta but also gets him into series trouble.


Scam 1992 The Harshad Mehta Story is a series that gives the viewer a clear idea of how the stock market works. It teaches a normal person, unaware about the dealings of the market, everything that he needs to know, straight from understanding what ‘Bull’ or ‘Bear’ means, or to learn the cat and mouse game to survive in the market. The show is so far, the best researched, written, performed and executed show of all time, which also features justified cultural nuances that relate to the life of the lead character.

The Sony LIV series is 10 episodes long and has a well-balanced hand-picked cast who deliver to the best of their abilities. Speaking of the cast, casting director Mukesh Chhabra and his team deserve a standing ovation for the smart selection of actors which resonates to every character in the series. To start with Pratik Gandhi’s stellar performance, the actor who plays the lead manages to impress with his accent, and body language. The actor deserves an award for his performance in the series as he brings to life the character of Hansal Mehta. The Family Man actor Shreya Dhanwantry plays Sucheta Dalal, the journalist who broke the big scam story in 1992, an honest and righteous woman and hits the perfect notes while essaying the role. Young actor Anjali Barot who plays Harshad Mehta's wife Jyoti also shows a remarkable ability by optimally playing a tricky character. The promising young actor makes her quiet yet solid presence felt not just in Harshad Mehta's life, but in the series as well. Apart from all the important facets of the series, the believability of actor Rajat Kapoor who plays CBI Officer - K Madhavan CBI officer is the highlight of the show.

The Hansal Mehta directed series will not once get you bored, wanting to stop, as every aspect of Harshad Mehta’s life has been woven so brilliantly, that you might want to watch the series all over again. Written by Saurabh Dey, Sumit Purohit, Vaibhav Vishal and Karan Vyas, the Scam 1992 The Harshad Mehta Story on SONY LIV and is Super Duper BINGEWORTHY! Last but not the least; the show is worth investing in terms of the long term, as it will only give you maximum profit.
