Hollywood star Will Smith is set to essay the role of crime boss Nicky Barnes in The Council. Apart from acting in it, Will also back the new project. The fact-based story of Nicky Barnes, who led a New York City crime, syndicates that ruled Harlem in the ’70s and ’80s. And the makers have brought Peter Landesman onboard to pen the script for The Council. Landesman has also wrote and directed Smith’s 2015 sports drama Concussion.

A report in Varitey.com states, crime-drama The Council is based on a crime syndicate consisting of seven African-American men who ruled Harlem in the 1970s and early 80s with the goal of establishing a self-sufficient and self-policing African American city-state, funded by revolutionizing the drug game. It explores the Shakespearean court intrigue in the council between Barnes and a rising protege.

Meanwhile, The Pursuit of Happyness actor celebrated his 51st birthday on September 25. On his big day, the West star took to the stage at the St Stephens Basilica Square, in Budapest, Hungary on shortly after the European premiere of Gemini Man.
