Neil Gaiman has been one of the most prolific fantasy writers of our time. One of his most famous novels, co-written with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens has been up for an adaptation for a while now. When it was announced that Amazon Prime Video has picked it up to make into a mini series, fans were elated. Gaiman himself has extensively been a part of the adaptation and has earlier been a part of the adaptation of his book, American Gods.
To put it simply, Good Omens is the story of a devil and angel trying to save the world. The angel, Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) develops an unlikely friendship, which sometimes turns into a love-hate relationship with the devil, Crowley (David Tennant) who are joint by a singular mission, to stop the approaching Armegeddon. How do they do this? All they have to do is find the Antichrist who happens to be a young boy.

The cast is also sprinkled with other surprises like Jon Hamm from Mad Men who plays an angel. First things first, the best parts of the show are when Sheen and Tennant are on screen. Their chemistry is addictive and you almost miss them when they aren’t there. The dialogues are great too, some of the best lines from the book have been retained.
It is a wonder that Good Omens was made in the first place. It has been largely considered to be unadaptable. This in itself is a feat pulled off by the makers who have managed to create a world that is believable and given life to characters which were magical on paper.
Good Omens should be your choice of show, the next time you need a fantasy fix.
