Playing a negative character on screen is a challenge and to make it believable is a bigger one. Darshan Kumaar is one of those actors who has fulfilled that challenge gracefully. After portraying the villainous Major Sameer from ISI in The Family Man season 1, he continued his stint as the devious threat in the recently released season 2 as well.
Presently, he is enjoying the amazing response the show has been getting and is basking in its glory. “It has been amazing. We expected to get a good response to the show but never did we imagine that it will become the monster that it did. This is humongous and people are giving so much love to our characters. They are loving the concept and everything about the show. It’s like a win-win situation for all of us and we are flying high on success. Thanks to the audience they are loving and accepting different type of concepts and it’s a good time for us,” he asserts. However, giving a believable villainous performance came with its consequences as well. Even though the show and Darshan himself are getting so much love, there has been some hatred for his character as well, which has crossed the barrier of the reel world. “There are 1000s of fan theories and messages that have come to me on social media. People are writing to me things like, “Hindustan Zindabad, Major Sameer tum kabhi kaamyab nahi ho sakte”,” he laughs. Darshan goes on to add that it seems like some people have forgotten all his positive roles from before. “They forgot that I am the same guy who played Major Raunak Gautam in Avrodh: The Siege Within as well. People are behind my life saying, “Sameer tum jhannum mein jao”. They are saying “I wish you die” or “I wish Srikant chokes you and kills you”. I think that’s a compliment for me that people are raising slogans against my character on social media,” he signs off with a smile.
