Despite Kangana Ranaut’s assertion that her J Jayalalithaa biopic would be screened only in movie theatres, Thalaivii the Jayalalitha biopic directed by AL Vijay, has already been sold to not just one streaming platform, but two.

While the Tamil version of Thalaivii will be streamed on Amazon, the Hindi version will be streamed on Netflix.

Confirming this bifurcated bi-lingual streaming a source in the know tells this writer, “The news report that Netflix and Amazon will simultaneously stream the film is not quite true. Netflix has bought the Hindi version of Thalaivii and Amazon the Tamil version. They are two different experiences, produced, filmed and sold separately.”

The date of streaming of both the versions on different OTT platforms is yet to be announced. But it is expected to stream after a month of its theatrical release on September 10.

It was earlier reported that Thalaivii would mark the first Hindi movie to release simultaneously on any two OTT platforms. According to an interview with Kangana Ranaut, the film's international distribution rights were sold to both platforms for Rs 55 Crore (approximately $7.5 million).

Thalaivii has received mixed reviews from the audiences and critics alike, with the majority of responses stating that Kangana Ranaut’s performance is the only saviour in the film.
