Amazon Prime's web series 'Tandav' starring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover landed in controversy right from the time it was released on the OTT platform. A section of people objected to the representation of Hindu deities in the series. An FIR was registered against Amazon Prime's India head of original content Aparna Purohit, as well as the producers and writers at Hazratganj Kotwali in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) for allegedly portraying Hindu gods in a bad light. The UP Government had told the Allahabad High Court that the makers of the web series have been booked for portraying ‘God’ in a very derogatory manner.
On Monday, Amazon Prime India’s head of original content Aparna Purohit was directed to appear before the police. Live Law reported that a single bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh directed Aparna Purohit to appear before the investigating officer on February 23, and to fully cooperate in the investigation. Now, Times Now reported that Aparna Purohit has reached the Hazratganj Police station to record her statement. In the video shared by the news channel, Aparna Purohit can be seen making her way to the police station.
The Allahabad High Court had reportedly ordered ‘no coercive action’ against Aparna Purohit on February 4. After the temporary reprieve, this protection was extended by the Lucknow Bench of the High Court in relation to the FIR registered in Hazratganj Kotwali in Lucknow.
