More than a month after its release on Netflix, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is still one of the most discussed shows on the internet. While the show received mixed responses from the audience, who were eagerly waiting for the series, it was the post-release promotional interviews of the cast members that stole the limelight. While many went on to share their experiences of working on the show with SLB, his niece, Sharmin Segal, who essays the role of Alamzeb, grabbed the headlines for completely different reasons.
As the cast members heaped praises on the filmmaker’s shooting techniques and attention to detail, Sharmin, who was already under fire for her ‘expressionless and emotionless’ acting, was seen taking subtle digs at Aditi Rao Hydari and Sanjeeda Shaikh. While she indirectly took a dig at Shaik and implied that she is an outsider, Segal called Hydari a ‘schoolgirl’ for being punctual on sets. Well, her interviews certainly didn’t go down well with the netizens as they bashed her left, right, and center for passing ‘rude and disrespectful’ comments against her seniors. Now, in a recent interview, the Malal actress has addressed the trolling.

Quoted by Hindustan Times, she said, “Again this is something I don't know. What I do know is that my interviews were being taken out of context and some of my co-stars have spoken graciously as to how these interviews were taken out of context. I share a very cordial equation with both Aditi and Sanjeeda. I wish that people would not use 10 second out of context clips to define the relationship I share with them.”
For those who don’t know, Sharmin Segal is the daughter of Bela Segal and Deepak Segal. SLB is her maternal uncle.
Released on 1st May 2024, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first web series. The show stars an ensemble cast of Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, Taha Shah Badussha, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman, and many others in pivotal roles. The makers of the show recently announced the show's second season. Bhansali will reportedly start working on it after the release of Love & War, starring Rabir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal.
