Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali marked his OTT debut with the web-series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The show has been in the headlines for quite sometime now for various reasons. From netizens lauding the extravagant sets, the performances of Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and the others, to calling out the filmmaker for casting his niece Sharmin Segal, who has been mercilessly trolled for her bland and expressionaless acting, as one of the leading ladies of the show. Weeks after denying the possibility of creating a season 2 of the show, the makers have now announced that the show has been renewed for yet another season.

Netflix India, recently took to their official social media handle to make the announcement with a dance video. They shared the video with the caption, “Mehfil phir se jamegi, Heeramandi: Season 2 jo aayega. Choreography by: @iamkrutimahesh.” Fans have been left with mixed reactions over the announcement. Now talking to Variety about the same, SLB shared that making a series takes a lot of efforts. He has tirelessly worked to making the show after the release of Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi. Shedding light on the crux of Heeramandi season 2, the 61-year-old filmmaker revealed that the tawaaifs will leave Lahore after the partition and come to India. They make a name for themselves in Mumbai or Kolkata’s film industries. Quoted by News18, he said, “In Heeramandi 2, the women now come from Lahore to the film world. They leave Lahore after the partition and most of them settle in the Mumbai film industry or Kolkata film industry. So that journey in the bazaar remains the same. They still have to dance and sing, but this time for the producers and not for the nawabs. So that’s the second season we are planning, let’s see where it goes.” ALSO READ: ‘How Bi**hy And Arrogant Is She?’: Sharmin Segal Gets Mercilessly TROLLED After She Calls Heeramandi Co-Star Sanjeeda Sheikh An ‘Outsider’

He had opened up about the taxing process of creating the show on the latest featurette released on IMDB. He had went on to add, “We’ve made it, I’ve enjoyed making it, and I’m thankful to God that we made it… It was a very difficult project. Nobody else will ever be able to make Heeramandi again, nor will I be able to make it again, because it happens once.”
